Course description: An Introduction to Observational Drawing. A workshop that takes existing abilities and applies them to sketching subjects from life. Using a progressive series of exercises, beginners are introduced to observational techniques to equip them with an understanding of sketching and drawing with a view to enable ongoing artistic development. Course aims and skills/knowledge to be taught: · To equip the novice with observational techniques to enable them to produce sketches that correspond with the subject matter. · Shape recognition, representation of form and dimension, appreciation of perspective, light and shade. · Demonstrate how existing skills can be applied to sketching from life. · While the workshop doesn’t send the student home with a finished piece of art, it is intended they will leave with a clearer view of what they can achieve on their own initiative. · Extensive course notes provide information, hints and tips for developing drawing skills far beyond the workshop itself. Course outline for the day: Morning activity · Pete will outline the aims of the workshop · The morning will begin with alternating demonstrations and simple drawing exercises · Progressively involved exercises will occupy the rest of the morning Afternoon Activity · Further demonstration sketches and exercises - introducing ‘negative space’, light and shade · Bringing it all together - we make drawings applying processes and techniques from the day · Final critique - Q&A After you book a place you will be emailed the full workshop outline which includes the material list and a list of the materials provided.


Cancellation Policy

• If you, the customer cancels your booked workshop, we are unable to offer you a refund. • In the event of under-subscription, workshops may be cancelled or re-arranged. We will give you as much notice as possible if this happens and you will be able to transfer to another course or receive a full refund. The RBSA is unable to refund additional expenses, such as travel and accommodation. • If you are booked on a workshop and do not turn up on the day, a refund will not be given.
