Course description: Easily create beautiful semi abstract paintings from photographs using a variety of paints and mediums. Explore and experiment with colour, form, and expressive techniques. Ideal for beginners but also suitable for artists looking to try something new. Course aims and skills/knowledge to be taught: • To experiment with different paints and mediums to create beautiful semi abstract paintings from photographs. • Using various paints including Watercolour painting techniques , watercolour paper and various brushes and tools. • Acrylic painting techniques using various paper based surfaces including prepared surfaces . • How to choose a colour palette and mix colours. • Surface preparation. • How to start a painting. • What makes a successful painting. • When a painting is finished • How to evaluate and critique your work. Course outline for the day: Morning activity • Zarina will introduce the aims and content of the workshop. • The group will begin with photograph aesthetics. What makes a good picture then painting. • Zarina will talk about; surface, palette, mediums, and the best paints to use for the best results. • Zarina will demonstrate step by step, creative semi abstract techniques using paint to visualise photography in paint. • The group will paint along, completing all the painterly tasks. • Zarina will explain how to evaluate the created works and what makes a good painting. • The group will have opportunities during the session to ask questions and evaluate each other’s work. Afternoon activity • Zarina will talk about colour and tone, light and dark, composition, balance and colour palette. • The group will continue completing all the painterly tasks. • Zarina will explain how to evaluate the created works and how to build on what you have created in this session. • The group will have opportunities during the session to ask questions and critique each others work. • At the end of the session there will be a group critique. After you book a place you will be emailed the full workshop outline which includes the material list and a list of the materials provided by the workshop.

We will give you as much notice as possible if this happens and you will be able to transfer to another course or receive a full refund.
