Course description: The RBSA is situated in Birmingham’s historic Jewellery Quarter with a wealth of fascinating building and canal and street scenes just waiting to be drawn. This workshop will be a good introduction to the area and to urban drawing. It will also provide some useful tips for some more experienced sketchers. Topics covered will include understanding perspective, composing your scenes and appreciating architectural detail. Using the gallery as a base, we will be out and about with our sketchbooks in the surrounding area. In the event of bad weather preventing sketching outdoors, then we will work from photographs of buildings in the Jewellery Quarter. Please note that this workshop will include walking and sketching outdoors. It is not suitable for people with limited mobility. Course aims and skills/knowledge to be taught This course has been designed with two key aims in mind: • To reinforce the importance of accurate draughtsmanship and drawing what is there rather than what you think you see. • To look at ways of developing your personal style.
