March at the RBSA: artists in action and must-see exhibitions

March is the month to book on our trip to the Fresh:Art Fair, check out our exhibitions, and see artists in action at one of our free Saturday demos. Did you know that you can often find working artists providing fascinating glimpses into their practice at the Gallery?

This month, you can see Natalie Seymour on Saturday 10 March, David White’s print sale on Saturday 24 March, and Robert Page on Saturday 31 March.

You can drop in between 11am – 1pm and 2pm – 4pm.

Our Open is a popular annual show featuring artists working in different media from across the region. The exhibition is sponsored by Fresh: Art Fair and you can download your complimentary free ticket to the fair at the Open Exhibition page.

Vanessa Conyers, ‘Secret Garden 23’


Celebrate nature’s bounty through this varied display of jewellery, ceramics, and textiles. Each item is hand-made by a designer-maker who has taken inspiration from the colours, forms, and subjects found throughout flora and fauna. With such a cornucopia of craft to select from we are sure to have something to suit all tastes and budgets. So, come and beat the winter blues by treating yourself to a beautiful piece of craft.

Margaret Fairhead, ‘Curzon Street Rail Terminal’


RBSA Member Margaret Fairhead travels regularly between Birmingham New Street and Tywyn by train, giving her the opportunity to study and appreciate both urban and rural views from the comfort of the Arriva Train service.

Natalie Seymour, ‘Rebuild 2’


Natalie Seymour is a Next Wave Associate of the RBSA, a scheme supporting emerging artists. She uses digital technology to combine and alter photographs of derelict buildings. Her final pieces aim to express the sense of confusion and foreboding felt when exploring abandoned places.

Come to her free demo on digital composition on Saturday 10 March, 11am – 1pm and 2pm – 4pm.

Face to Face 2018 until 18 April 

Robert Page draws on classical mythology to produce his evocative sculptures. This exhibition features a selection of striking and intriguing heads in bronze and bronze resin.

A live sculpture demonstration takes place on 31 March at the RBSA Gallery: 11am – 1pm, 2pm – 4pm, FREE.

Cornish Inspirations 19 March – 5 May 

David White, ‘Padstow Harbour’


This solo show features the striking prints of RBSA Member David White. Explore David’s abstract mixed-media paintings and linocut prints. This collection combines outdoor Cornish harbour views with imaginary artist-studio interiors, creating intriguing scenes that question the viewer’s sense of viewpoint.

Carnivalesque 26 March – 5 May

Chris Salmon is well-known for creating quirky characters that amuse and intrigue. This selection of prints, drawings, and paintings includes new work alongside old favourites.
