There’s a vibrant feel to the ground floor of the RBSA at the moment… and a lot of it is down to our current craft show, Carnival.
This themed craft show is inspired by the extravagant carnivals of New Orleans and Brazil. The exhibition displays vibrant ceramics, textiles and prints as well as jewellery in a variety of precious metals and stones.
All the crafts are handmade from carefully selected designer-artists. Most pieces are also for sale, making it a great opportunity to grab an arty gift. But be quick! The show closes at the end of May…
Ruth Green, ‘Botanical Garden’
Highlights from the exhibition include Ruth Green’s whimsical art prints.
Ruth is a Birmingham-based artist who has authored several illustrated books.
Ruth’s handmade silkscreen prints draw inspiration from the flora and fauna of the British countryside.
She also has a fascination with mid-century pattern designs. It’s worth knowing that Ruth makes her prints in collectible editions…
Also look out for Fern Robinson’s quirky multicoloured jewellery. Fern’s ‘childishly sophisticated’ designs are inspired by the simplicity of a child’s interaction with objects.
To create the colourful stippled effect of her jewellery, Fern seals shards of crayon in tactile resin. This process means that each item is completely unique.
Fern’s pieces displayed in Carnival include pendant necklaces and earrings that would make great accessories for a cheerful Spring wardrobe.
With Easter gifts galore, and plenty of inspiration for birthdays, anniversaries and more, come and visit us soon! Carnival runs until 1 June.
