Summer is a busy time at the RBSA – along with our major exhibitions there’s a packed programme of workshops, demonstrations, and open events to enjoy at our Birmingham gallery.
The Open Studios weekend at the end of July promises fun for all the family, along with a programme of free demonstrations, held regularly on Saturdays.
Workshops at the RBSA are the perfect way for art lovers in Birmingham to improve their skills. Classes range from one to four days and need to be booked in advance. You can learn across a variety of disciplines and media – materials and refreshments are included. In August there’s a programme of portrait-themed workshops to run alongside the Portrait Prize exhibition.

The RBSA features regular solo shows showcasing the work of Members, Associates and artists from Birmingham and across the UK in the café spaces and craft gallery wall on the ground floor. Coming up this month:
You can enjoy regular weekend demonstrations by RBSA members, which are free and open to all. No need to book. Just come along to the Jewellery Quarter in Birmingham and enjoy art in the making.
July demonstrations include:
Sat 8 July: Alex Callaway: oil painting techniques and information on joining the Friends. 11am-1pm and 2pm-4pm.
Sat 22 July: Judith Rowley: 2D and 3D art using hand-painted and handstitched fabric. 11am-1pm and 2pm-4pm.
Sat 29 – Sun 30 July: Open Studios – the Open Studios weekend features workshops by two RBSA members, Robert Page and Paul Brown. Sat: 11am-1pm and 2pm-4pm. Sun: 2pm-4pm.
