Are you looking for an interesting day out this springtime? The RBSA has a variety of events and new exhibitions coming up, and there’s something for everyone. Here are some of the highlights…

Hilary Paynter 4 – 21 April

April sees the launch of a major retrospective across Galleries One and Two featuring the work of renowned wood engraver and printmaker Hilary Paynter.

Hilary has selected new large-scale wood engravings and collages to feature alongside prints from a lifetime’s work in this must-see exhibition.

Lovers of print will find many works of interest, and if you’re new to collecting art, you may find Hilary’s free demonstration informative.

Saturday 14 April

Hilary Paynter, the Past President of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers and Honorary RBSA member will demonstrate her process, giving you an exclusive insight into the creation of the amazing prints on display. The demonstration is free and there is no need to book, so simply pop by the upper floor of Hilary’s exhibition to see her in action. 11am – 1pm, and 2pm – 4pm.

The end of this month sees the annual showcase of work by artists nominated to become Associates or Members. The RBSA encourages artists at all stages of their professional careers and this show is your chance to see the future of the Society in the making!

Vanessa Conyers. Secret Garden 23

Vanessa Conyers, ‘Secret Garden 23’

Looking for a birthday present or a gift for a friend? Come and see this varied display of jewellery, ceramics, and textiles. Each item is hand-made by a designer-maker who has taken inspiration from the colours, forms, and subjects found throughout flora and fauna. With such a cornucopia of craft to select from we are sure to have something to suit all tastes and budgets.

Solo Shows

Our Saturday demonstrations continue with some of the many solo artists on show this month – you can see Robert Page on Saturday 31 March and Fran Currie on 28 April.

Drop in between 11am – 1pm and 2pm – 4pm. No booking required.

Surrounded by Sea Jasmina Ajzenkol 16 April – 9 June


Jasmina finds inspiration in nature and marine subjects. The shapes of seedpods, shells and other underwater creatures have influenced her vessel forms. The rhythmic gradation of the beach from sand to gravel also provides inspiration for texture, colour and the surface quality of her work.

Face to Face Robert Page until 18 April 

Winged Messenger 2 No.1

Robert Page draws on classical mythology to produce his evocative sculptures. This exhibition features a selection of striking and intriguing heads in bronze and bronze resin.

A live sculpture demonstration takes place on 31 March at the RBSA Gallery: 11am – 1pm, 2pm – 4pm, FREE.

Fran Currie 28 April

Fran will be in the Gallery demonstrating how she sets up and composes her still-life subjects, painted in the style of the Old Masters.

Cornish Inspirations David White until 5 May 

David White, Padstow Harbour

David White, ‘Padstow Harbour’

This solo show features the striking prints of RBSA Member David White. Explore David’s abstract mixed-media paintings and linocut prints. This collection combines outdoor Cornish harbour views with imaginary artist-studio interiors, creating intriguing scenes that question the viewer’s sense of viewpoint.

Chris Salmon ‘Catwalk’

Chris Salmon is well-known for creating quirky characters that amuse and intrigue. This selection of prints, drawings, and paintings includes new work alongside old favourites.

We take a deposit or full payment at the gallery, and you can arrange to collect your work once the exhibition is over.
