An artist’s life in the film business: Chris Baker on Spielberg, Kubrick and Burton

He’s worked with some of the world’s top film directors.. and the RBSA’s own Chris Baker will be telling us about his exciting and varied career in A Fantastic Voyage on 19 June.

Chris has designed and storyboarded for over twenty feature films, working closely with the likes of Stanley Kubrick, Steven Spielberg and Tim Burton. He has also received several film industry awards and nominations.

Born in Birmingham he studied at Bournville School of Art, starting out as a graphic artist and illustrator before becoming a full-time freelance illustrator.

Chris has produced art for books, gaming and graphic novels under the pseudonym ‘Fangorn’ most recently for a deluxe illustrated edition of Stephen King’s Salems Lot (PS Publishing).

Chris says: ‘I imagine my work in film will be what attracts the most interest. I`ll talk a little about working with directors with the main focus on the process and techniques involved.

‘I still do the occasional film work but concentrate more these days on my oil painting, printmaking and sculpture.’

Dreamer #2

Chris is also an accomplished fine artist creating paintings, original prints and sculpture. He became a full RBSA Member in 2018 and will take us through his exciting career, exploring all the media he has worked in along the way.
