Helen Appleby is a textile artist. She uses fine silks, organdie, muslin, and paper, with threads, pressed flowers, photographs and paint. Her work is influenced by her garden, woods, fields, rivers, brooks and family happenings.
She attempts to capture sights and moods and thoughts and then translate them into delicate hand and machine embroideries. She likes sweeping curves and emphatic lines and is interested in opposites, such as tension and relaxation, strength and frailty, and dark and light. Helen aims to create elegant and harmonious compositions.
