The Full Story
Made by Roberta Giaquinta from her studio in West Yorkshire. She studied fashion design at the Academy of Art in Italy. Roberta developed a love and interest for polymer clay, which is what started her jewellery making practice.
The inspiration for this particular collection originated from the childhood memories of the artist when diving off the coast of Sicily surrounded by beautiful aquatic scenes. Roberta has endeavored to encapsulate these memories in exquisite contemporary designs capturing summers spent swimming, diving, collecting shells, pebbles and observing coral and starfish.
Materials and process
By using polymer clay and textured tools she creates detailed sea creatures to methodically sculpt and texture clay to construct voluminous pieces that mimic the beautiful sea flora and translate into densely formed detailed jewellery. The artist has used the ombre technique linked with vibrant colours as well as transparent clay with blue and white to replicate the beautiful colours of the sea and its beautiful organic forms.
