RBSA Portrait Prize 2019

Summary of the exhibition

The biennial Portrait Prize attracts talented artists from across the UK and beyond. This year’s show is selected by professional portrait painters John Devane, Robert Neil VP PPRBSA, Sara Shamma, and Jonathan Waller.

Artists entering have the chance to win a selection of prizes, including a £1,000 top prize and a People’s Choice Prize, selected from votes cast by visitors.

The exhibition is free to visit and everyone is welcome.

Purchasing artworks

All of the artworks on display are original. The majority of works are for sale and prices start at £115.

Commissions are welcome. To enquire about commissioning a portrait, please ask the Gallery staff member at the ground floor desk. Things to consider before making an enquiry are:

+ Your budget (how much would you like to spend)
+ Which artists / styles of art you like
+ Your deadlines (by when do you nede the portrait to be finished)
+ (2D) Whether you want the work framed or unframed / (3D) on a plinth or base
+ What material you need the artist to work from (sittings, photos, a mix of both)

Deadline to enter 

The deadline to enter has now passed.

Pre-selection and final selection

The list of pre-selected works is available to download via the link the upper-right of this page.

Once the pre-selected artworks have been delivered, a final selection will be made based on seeing the physical artworks.

The decision of the selection panel is final and no discussions will be entered into.

Closing Party & Prizes

Prizes will be awarded by John Devane at the Closing Party on Saturday 31 August, 2-4pm.

The GMC Trust First Prize - £1,000 cash prize
Maguire Jackson Second Prize - £500
Rosemary & Co. Prize - £250 materials voucher .
Jackson Art Supplies Prize for Young Artist - £125 materials voucher                                                                                                                   • People's Choice Prize - £50                                                                            • Up to 6 Highly Commended certificates
