Alchemy

11 April — 17 June 2011

Opening our minds to the science behind craft-making, Alchemy examines the properties of materials used in the making of jewellery, silverware and ceramics. Revealing the chemical reactions that take place in the making of craft, such as the use of acid in etching onto silver, the exhibition displays a host of traditional techniques with a modern twist. Works on show include enamelled jewellery from new graduate Alison Swindles and hand-thrown, reduction-fired ceramics from Carolyn Noy.
