Andrew Coates RBSA

Andrew was born in Leeds and studied Painting and Lithography at college before moving to Birmingham to train as an Art Teacher. He was Head of Creative Arts at Westhill College for a number of years and now works part-time at the University of Warwick. Andrew has exhibited throughout Britain including at Walsall Art Gallery, the Ikon Gallery and Worcester Museum and Art Gallery. He is currently engaged in a project observing children making self-directed drawings. Andrew produces assemblage works composed of man-made and natural objects collected from the landscape as well as items bought in junk shops. Qualities of texture, colour, shape and previous use are important when Andrew is choosing his components. Photographs and drawings act as starting points and provide inspiration for his themes.
