Valerie Alexander
Valerie Alexander trained in art at Newcastle and Birmingham, then had a full-time career as an art teacher and lecturer before taking early retirement to concentrate on her own painting.
She works mostly in water-colour, sometimes in pastel, to paint her own individual interpretation of the natural world, whether it be in the form of a landscape or a simple bunch of flowers. “It is the light falling on a subject that trsnsforms it, and it is the fascination of trying to capture and convey the effects of light that is the stimulus and mainspring of my work”
Her work has been published on the Patchings website and in the ‘International Artist’ magazine. An article on her working methods appears in the book "How Did You Paint That? 100 Ways to Paint Landscapes" printed by the same company.
She is a member of The Society of Floral Painters and exhibits regularly with them as well as taking part each year in a variety of group exhibitions around the U.K.
