Katharine Barker
My paintings are concerned with the passage of time and the continuous cycle of organic structures, be they complex molecule, a woven cloth or a social network, forming, flourishing and then decaying, finally freeing their constituent parts to create a new entity.
I draw on a visual vocabulary built up during a career working with historic textiles and paint in the abstract, in oils on undulating canvases, created through stitching, folding and stiffening the cloth.
