Jo Connell
"My inspiration comes
from the natural world - landscape and seascape,
rock strata, plant growth, patterns made
by water - and from an enjoyment in the
working properties of clay itself. I work
experimentally with marbled and stretched
coloured clays, creating a surface which
is often highly textured. I make sculptural
vessels and wall panels, sometimes combining
mixed media."
Jo is a member of the Craft
Potters Association and the RBSA. She taught
ceramics, glass and jewellery for many years
in schools and colleges, and in 2002 she
wrote a comprehensive book on ceramic decoration
techniques, "The Potters Guide to Ceramic
Surfaces", as a result of all the knowledge
she gained from her students! She exhibits
widely in the UK and abroad, making one-off
pieces for interiors and gardens, and running
occasional courses at West Dean College,
Chichester.
