Jo Connell
“My inspiration comes from the natural world - landscape and seascape, rock strata, plant growth, patterns made by water - and from an enjoyment in the working properties of clay itself. I work experimentally with marbled, layered and stretched coloured clays, creating a
surface which is often highly textured.
I make sculptural vessels and wall panels, sometimes combining mixed media."
Recent work is leaning towards printed surfaces and sculptural pieces inspired by plants.
A member of the Craft Potters Association Jo taught ceramics, glass and jewellery for many years in schools and colleges, and in 2002 wrote a comprehensive book on decoration techniques, "The Potters Guide to Ceramic Surfaces". A&C Black have recently published her second book “Colouring Clay" in their ceramics handbook series.
She exhibits widely , running occasional courses at West Dean College, Chichester.
