Frank Cook
Frank Cook works with transient visual experiences derived from personal observation. Images are diverse, often related to landscape, townscape or natural forms. Inventive development is sustained by using bleach, pencil and watercolour in many of the works where an implied narrative or allegoric context prevails.
Ideas begin through the process of translation. One sees, reacts and responds in both practical applications and through creative expression. The visual images produced are a diary; recording things seen and felt that then contribute to a personal journey through life.
Qualities often include atmospheric light and the juxtaposition of many visual elements through the unusual media application. Colour is low key in many of the works, which are produced on hand made paper laminated to paper, board or canvas.
Reconstruction of pictorial representation challenges the role of the viewer, encouraging an active engagement to look beyond the obvious; to seek out and explore their own interpretations to both understand and to provide additional breadth of potential meaning in the images produced.
Frank Cook lives and works at his studio in Rugby, exhibits regularly and is an Associate Member of the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists.
