David Walton
I have two apparently disparate
interests.
The first is straight observational drawing;
life, portrait and natural form.
My most recent exemplars have been the precise
analysis and facets in Uglow's paintings
and the description of the surface direction
in Freud's drypoint etchings.
Examining the various approaches to drawings
is one reason why I enjoy teaching the subject.
My second interest is painting which is
abstract and usually focuses on shape and
colour. I continually study art history
and this frequently provides a starting
point for my work. the dynamic imagery found
in ethnographic collections like Pitt Rivers
particularly inspires me.
