'Me, myself and I'
A series of Children's Portrait Summer Workshops
with Emily Porter Salmon RBSA
In each session Emily will help you to make gorgeous portraits
using lots of dazzling materials such as sweet packets, glitter, paint and of course there will be lots of cutting and sticking.
All you need to bring is a photograph of yourself or someone whose portrait you would like to paint. Emily uses words in her work so bring along any favourite poems you would like to include in your work, maybe one you have written yourself!
The sessions are:

Suitable for ages 5 and over (all children must be accompanied by an adult) £6 per child

Marylane will take you through the process of creating
a landscape scene from beginning to completion.

Demonstration in portraiture with Ron Jones RBSA
A join in session - Ron will combine free portraits
with a teaching session so bring along pencils, pastels and
watercolours and paper have a go yourself.
If you would like to be a sitter please book a session for your portrait by contacting the gallery on 0121 236 4353. Anyone wishing to
have a go at portraiture does not need to book just come along.

RBSA Open Portrait Exhibition
Saturday 2 August 11.00am - 4.00pm
Portrait workshop with Emily Porter Salmon RBSA
Inspired by the session leader's own work, you will have the opportunity to experiment with portraiture using different media incorporating text into your image in an effort to bring another dimension to the representation of your sitter's personality.
Please bring a small collection of good quality (non-flash!) photographs of your chosen sitter, along with any poems or pieces of text you feel reflect the person in question.
£33 (£25 for Friends of the RBSA)
Suitable for adults aged 16 and over.
RBSA Summer School 2008
This year we are extending our Summer School and introducing several new courses. The Summer School will be held at the RBSA Gallery, where the first floor exhibition space will be set aside for workshops. All the courses are led by RBSA members with substantial experience of teaching.
For further information about the Summer School courses, including lists of materials students will require and details of firing arangements for clay workshops, please download the course outlines below. To book a place contact Louise on 0121 236 4353 or louise@rbsa.org.uk. Card payments may be made over the telephone or post a cheque with a covering note. Places in each workshop will be limited to 10 students so allocation will take place on a first come first served basis, subject to receipt of full, non-refundable, payment. Workshops run from 10.30am to 4.30pm each day with an hour break for lunch: please bring your own lunch or eat out around St Paul’s Square. Hot and cold drinks may be purchased in our self-service cafe.

Making Abstract Art

A five day course devoted to the understanding and deconstruction of twentieth century art through practical studio projects. Students will work on design, drawing, collage, and colour .

Printed Clay Surfaces for Beginners

A one day course for up to seven students who would like to explore the potential of printing on clay. Students will be able to experiment with intaglio and mono print and see how clay is sensitive to impressions and fine textural detail.

Developing Handbuilding Skills

A two day workshop, for up to seven students with some experience of clay work, exploring the use of coloured clays to create decorative textured surfaces, including laminating, stretching and texturing, appliqué, inlay and overlay.

Printed and Layered Textiles

A two day workshop devoted to textiles. Experiment with free and loose painting of fabric, monoprinting and block printing and construct works with the resulting fabrics using mixed media and hand stitching.

Drypoint Portraits
