Artist and sculptor Jo Naden RBSA responds to Matthew Boulton’s work in revolutionising coinage with a free, family-friendly, drop-in workshop where participants will be able to have a go and making their own coin in plaster.

Celebrating Birmingham’s Gem in the Jewellery Quarter

Taking place at various locations throughout the Jewellery Quarter
The Jewellery Quarter will be buzzing on the 4 July with activities such as live classical and jazz music and a designer-maker craft market around St. Paul’s Square with a guest appearance by Matthew Boulton (!) There will also be an opportunity to take a ride on a vintage tour bus that will shuttle between St. Paul’s Square, the farmer’s market by the Big Peg and the main shopping area where you can also enjoy museum events and a Matthew Boulton Treasure Hunt sponsored by Smooth Radio. ‘Meet the artist’ and studio tour
3.00pm at RBSA Gallery
Free - no need to book . Places on the studio tour are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
Come along and meet glass artist, Lenora Minto RBSA and see her exhibition in the RBSA Cafe Space. Lenora works with kiln-casted glass and is inspired by literature, poetry, language and typography. Her exhibition “by the light of the moon”, takes its name from the Lunar Society who met every month in and around Birmingham on the Monday nearest the full moon (when there was most light to travel home by) from 1765 until 1813, “a gathering place for scientists, inventors and natural philosophers” and the great minds of the day, of which Matthew Boulton was a prominent member. Lenora will be giving an informal talk about her exhibition following which she will take a small group to her studio at Regent Place, just a short walk from the RBSA Gallery, where visitors can gain an insight into glass artists’ working methods.

The RBSA run a range of workshops that coincide with the gallery's exhibitions. They are designed to introduce new techniques to newcomers and to develop the skills of those who already have previous experience. To book any of the events please call: 0121 2364353 or email: louise@rbsa.org.uk
RBSA Summer School 2009
Led by RBSA members with substantial experience of teaching, RBSA Summer School workshops run from 10.30am to 4.30pm each day with an hour break (refreshments not included). Maximum ten students per workshop. Places are allocated on a first come, first served basis, subject to receipt of full payment. Please note that payments are non-refundable put may be transferrable subject to availability. Materials requirements are detailed in course outlines, specialist items may be purchased from the tutor where necessary.
